Discover Classical is fine arts radio for our community. To more than 45,000 weekly listeners, we are a concert and recital hall – always open, never charging admission, and a constant companion. Discover Classical is a portal to the arts, informing our community of upcoming events such as theatre productions, lectures, musical performances, exhibits, and other cultural gatherings. Unlike any other arts organization, we strengthen the entire cultural community and greatly contribute to the quality of life in our seventeen county broadcast area.
The licensee of WDPR (Dayton) and WDPG (Greenville), Discover Classical 88.1 & 89.9 FM has been on air for 30 years. The station makes classical music available to over a million people living in the Miami and Whitewater valleys from our transmitters in Dayton and Greenville, and across the globe via stream at discoverclassical.org. While Discover Classical is one of only about 2 dozen all classical public radio stations nationally, it reaches citizens in our community that would otherwise lack the opportunity to discover classical music or experience live performances.
Throughout our programming, Discover Classical preserves access to the arts for all citizens. For many older and economically disadvantaged members of our community, we provide entry to concerts they are unable attend due to physical or financial constraints. Discover Classical is more than radio, we are a performance stage, recital hall, musical educator, and portal to the community's artistic life, providing equal cultural opportunity to all. We are unique in Southwest Ohio and Eastern Indiana for providing this service. By preserving access to the world's greatest and most enduring music, we help to prepare audiences of the future, introducing a younger generation to a quality music and creative experience that is becoming increasingly rare.
